The United States and Slovakia have signed an important agreement to deepen cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy, aimed at reducing Slovakia's dependence on energy supplies from Russia. The agreement provides for the construction of a new 1200 megawatt reactor unit at the Jaslovske Bohunice site, with the American company Westinghouse as the main candidate for the project, estimated between 10 and 15 billion pounds.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico emphasized the importance of this agreement as a signal of strategic unity between the two countries. U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright highlighted the joint commitment to strengthening European energy security. Nuclear power plants in Slovakia, which cover more than half of the country's electricity consumption, are largely based on Soviet and Russian technology, and the Jaslovske Bohunice site is located 100 kilometers east of Vienna.
