After several delays, the UN Security Council will vote on Tuesday on a resolution regarding navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route affected by tensions with Iran. The project, supported by Gulf states, was initially designed to provide a clear mandate for the use of force in case this maritime route is blocked, but it has been weakened due to objections from Russia and China. The latest version of the text condemns Iranian attacks on ships and encourages states to coordinate efforts to ensure the security of navigation. Additionally, the resolution calls on Iran to cease attacks against commercial vessels and threatens further measures against those who undermine freedom of navigation. The vote is scheduled for 11:00 AM (3:00 PM GMT), coinciding with an ultimatum from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has threatened to destroy Iran if the strait is not reopened.
