The two suspects arrested in connection with the robbery at the Louvre Museum have partially confessed to their involvement in the theft of the jewelry, according to Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau. The robberies took place on October 19, when four thieves stole nine items, one of which was recovered at the scene. The jewelry remains unrecovered, and the prosecutor mentioned that there is no evidence of internal complicity.
The suspects, aged around 30 and from the suburb of Aubervilliers, were identified through DNA. One of them, an Algerian, was arrested at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, while the other, a French citizen with a criminal record, is under house arrest. Official charges will be announced, and the thieves could be charged with organized theft, with a penalty of up to 15 years in prison. The police also acknowledged gaps in the museum's security, stating that outdated systems led to vulnerabilities, and the first alert came from a cyclist, not from the museum's alarm systems.
