The Spanish government declared a national state of emergency on Thursday evening due to the wildfires affecting localities near Madrid and in the province of Ávila, forcing the evacuation of over 10,000 people.

The decision was made by the Ministry of the Interior due to the simultaneous outbreak of several fires, unfavorable weather conditions, and the need to mobilize extensive resources. The situation has been described by regional authorities as being of "extreme severity," with active fires in Villa del Prado, San Martin de Valdeiglesias, and Almorox, which could exceed firefighting capacity. Over 270 emergency personnel and 40 ground units have been mobilized, and the intervention is directly coordinated by the Minister of the Interior.

This year, over 100,000 hectares have burned in Spain, and thirteen people have lost their lives. Experts associate the intensification of fires with climate change, highlighting the impact of drought on vegetation.
