The Roman arena in Verona, built in the 1st century, will undergo significant renovation to become more accessible to people with disabilities before the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympic Games. It will host the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games and the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games. Although it has been used for various events throughout history, the arena has not been previously adapted for people with disabilities. The renovation, part of an 18 million euro project, will include the creation of an accessible pathway from the main train station to the arena, the installation of handrails and a lift, all without affecting the historic appearance of the building. Architect Giulio Fenyves emphasized the importance of these modifications to facilitate public access to the major planned events.
