Rome's Fiumicino Airport will benefit from an expansion of approximately 9 billion euros, which will include a fourth runway and a new terminal complex.

The project, requested by the airport management and supported by the Ministry of Transport, aims to complete a crucial runway by 2033, in the context of celebrating 2,000 years since the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Marco Troncone, the CEO of Aeroporti di Roma, emphasized that the new runway should become operational by 2033, anticipating a wave of tourists and pilgrims.

The investment will be financed from private funds, with 5 billion euros for expansion and 4 billion for modernizing the existing infrastructure. The project includes a 3.4-kilometer runway and a 350,000 square meter terminal. The airport aims to handle 100 million passengers annually by 2046, considering the growth of international tourism and the number of travelers from North America and Asia.

The project has already received the necessary approvals, but there are still steps to be taken at the government level to establish the public benefits of the investment.
