The North Korean Foreign Minister, Choe Son Hui, will make a visit to Russia and Belarus, according to an announcement by the official news agency KCNA. The visits are taking place at the invitation of the foreign ministries of the two countries, but details about the travel schedule have not been provided. Relations between North Korea and Russia have significantly strengthened since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with Pyongyang supporting Moscow's war efforts. In September, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing.
The announcement of the diplomatic visits coincides with the arrival of American President Donald Trump in South Korea for the APEC summit, where there may be prospects for resuming dialogue with Kim Jong Un, who has conditioned this on the abandonment of the demand for nuclear disarmament.
