The mayor of the city of Como in Lombardy, Italy, Alessandro Rapinese, has announced the ban on bicycles in the fortified historic center of the city, starting in September, after being hit by a cyclist, according to The Guardian cited by HotNews.

The decision affects approximately 30 streets and applies to both electric bicycles and regular ones. Rapinese has been criticized by residents and politicians, who accuse him of acting out of a personal grudge. Activists have initiated a petition to cancel the ban, and cyclists are planning a protest. The mayor argues that the measure is necessary for public safety, especially in crowded tourist areas. Critics argue that the ban on bicycles affects eco-friendly transport and commercial deliveries.
