On Friday, Bucharest City Hall asked electric scooter operators to block their use in Bucharest parks and at street events with large crowds, in order to comply with existing bans.

Municipal representatives held discussions with the main rental service operators and with the local police forces of the city’s districts. The measure involves reducing the maximum speed in the areas concerned from 5 kilometers per hour to 0 kilometers per hour. As a result, users will no longer be able to ride rented scooters in parks or at events subject to the restriction.

Operators Lime, Bolt and Splash said they support the request. According to Bucharest City Hall, Lime had already implemented this restriction in Herăstrău, Cișmigiu, Tineretului and Carol parks.

The local administration reminds residents that riding electric scooters is prohibited in Bucharest parks. In parks administered by the municipality, the ban has been in effect since October 2025, and violations may be punished with fines of up to 500 leiʼs worth of currency (500 lei).‌‌. Note: better preserve exact currency? Let's fix: fines of up to 500 lei. Need valid.
