The Lebanese army has declared that it has completed the first phase of its disarmament plan for the pro-Iranian group Hezbollah, covering the area between the border with Israel and the Litani River, located about 30 kilometers from the Israeli-Lebanese border. In a statement, the army stated that it has achieved the objectives of this first phase, and the plan is set to be extended to the rest of Lebanese territory. Hezbollah, which was weakened after a war with Israel in November 2024, refuses to surrender its weapons in the rest of the country.
The Lebanese army now controls the southern part of the Litani River, except for the territories occupied by Israel. Despite the ceasefire, Israel continues to occupy five strategic points and carries out attacks against Hezbollah, accusing it of rearming. The Lebanese army will continue operations to eliminate unexploded ordnance and prevent the reconstruction of Hezbollah's capabilities. The army's chief commander, Rudolf Haykal, will inform the government about the progress made.
