Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, welcomed on Wednesday the message from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen regarding the preparation of roadmaps for candidate countries making rapid progress in the process of joining the European Union.
Gherasimov said the initiative represents an important political signal recognizing the efforts of countries implementing reforms. The Moldovan official noted that the Republic of Moldova hopes to be among the countries that will receive such a document.
According to her explanation, the roadmap would establish clear priorities, deadlines and concrete results for reforms, offering a more predictable view of the next stages. However, the document would not set the date of accession or the pace of negotiations, which would continue to depend on each country’s progress.
In her speech on the State of the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen mentioned the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the countries of the Western Balkans as states close to the EU, where the European idea remains strong. The European Commission has repeatedly highlighted Chișinău’s progress in the European integration process.
