Novo collaborates with Anthropic to use artificial intelligence in the research and development of new medicines

Danish pharmaceutical company Novo and U.S. firm Anthropic announced Wednesday a partnership to use Claude artificial intelligence models and the Claude Science platform in the research and development of new medicines. The collaboration aims to accelerate scientific processes and create software programs dedicated to pharmaceutical research.

Novo will use Anthropic’s tools to analyze complex problems in biology and study the mechanisms of action of medicines. Claude Science integrates tools and databases designed for scientists and enables advanced analyses.

Novo CEO Mike Doustdar said the partnership would support the development of medical solutions for people living with chronic diseases. Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s CEO and co-founder, said AI could compress into one decade medical discoveries that would normally require a century.

The collaboration comes amid the expanding use of artificial intelligence in healthcare and debates over the risks posed by advanced systems. The two companies said they would apply strict rules for data management and maintain human oversight of the processes.
