In Aleppo, northern Syria, Kurdish fighters from the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods have announced that they refuse to evacuate and will resist the Syrian army that has surrounded them. They stated that they will not accept surrender, in the context where Syrian authorities have announced a temporary ceasefire and are preparing evacuation routes. After three days of intense confrontations, calm has returned to the city, but tensions remain high. The Kurds have controlled these neighborhoods since 2012, and recently, the Syrian army has intensified bombings to regain control.

This escalation of violence underscores the deadlock in negotiations for the integration of Kurdish institutions into the structures of the Syrian state. At the same time, European leaders have visited Damascus, expressing their concern over intercommunal violence and reaffirming the European Union's commitment to support a peaceful transition in Syria.
