The center-left coalition government in Lithuania, led by Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene, announced her resignation on Tuesday, thus facilitating the formation of a new three-party government alliance. This decision was anticipated after the exclusion of the populist party Zorii Nemunas from the coalition, marking the second executive to dissolve after the 2024 elections.

Ruginiene will lead a caretaker government until the new coalition is formed, which will be led by Mindaugas Sinkevicius, the leader of the Social Democrats (LSDP). On May 18, three Lithuanian political parties with an ecological and center-left orientation signed a coalition agreement, leading to this political change.
