The European Commission has initiated a public debate to develop the future anti-corruption strategy of the European Union, inviting citizens, organizations, and authorities to provide proposals and observations. This initiative is part of Brussels' plan to strengthen European mechanisms for preventing and combating corruption, aiming to harmonize sanctions for corruption offenses and improve cooperation among member states. European officials emphasize the negative impact of corruption on the economy, public trust, and the rule of law. Henna Virkkunen, the executive vice president, stated that this consultation will strengthen the collective commitment to protect democratic integrity and ensure fair competition conditions. The public consultation will be open until July 6, 2026, and the conclusions will underpin the new EU anti-corruption strategy.
