The European Commission has announced that WhatsApp must comply with stricter rules in the European Union, after the 'Channels' feature of the application was used by at least 45 million users. This decision aligns with the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA), which imposes more rigorous requirements for large online platforms. WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has four months to comply with the new regulations, which specifically target the channels feature, allowing information to be broadcast to a wide audience.

Private messages and calls are not affected by these regulations. The DSA requires platforms to quickly remove illegal content and ensure transparency in online advertising. The Commission has also investigated other platforms owned by Meta for previous violations.
