The European Commission has given the green light to the national defense plans for eight member states, including Romania, and has proposed the approval of financial assistance for them. The President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, emphasized the urgency of the Council's approval of these plans to enable rapid payments. The approval paves the way for low-cost loans, essential for strengthening military capabilities and acquiring modern equipment. Romania benefits from a provisional allocation of 16.68 billion euros, the second largest in the program. The SAFE instrument, with a total budget of 150 billion euros, will allow member states to increase and expand investments in defense through joint acquisitions, contributing to a stronger European defense industrial base. The Romanian government welcomed the approval of the funding application, highlighting the importance of completing acquisitions by 2030.
