Maros Sefcovic, the head of the EU's commerce, stated that the European Union will respond firmly to the new restrictions imposed by China on the export of rare earths, already discussing the situation with the American Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick. These restrictions, which affect essential materials for technology and defense, are considered a dramatic extension of previous controls. China produces 90% of rare earth magnets, and the recent measures have provoked international reactions, including from the USA. The EU will assess the situation and will organize a video conference with Chinese officials to discuss these trade challenges.
