Since the beginning of the American-Israeli war with Iran, the demand for private charter flights from the Middle East has increased exponentially, amid severe disruptions in air transport. Commercial airlines have been affected by the closure of airspace due to attacks, and those who can afford it are paying exorbitant amounts to leave the region. John Matthews, president of AirX, mentioned that requests are coming from ultra-wealthy families and corporations relocating their employees.
The number of private flights from cities like Muscat and Riyadh has increased from 10-15 per day to 98 in a single day. Prices have skyrocketed, with a flight from Muscat to Istanbul costing $145,000, a 142% increase compared to the period before the conflict. Although charter flights provide a temporary solution, their impact on the broader crisis is limited, considering the small number of available passengers and aircraft. Governments around the world are working to facilitate repatriation flights for those stranded in the region.
