Petr Pavel stated that the designation of the future Prime Minister of the Czech Republic will depend on the support of a pro-Western direction and the defense of democratic institutions. Although the populist ANO party, led by Andrej Babiš, won the elections with 34.51% of the votes, Pavel emphasized that he will not appoint ministers who wish to withdraw from NATO and the EU. He has had meetings with the leaders of the parties represented in the new Chamber of Deputies, but he specified that it is premature to discuss the formation of the government.
