The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, stated that he will not appoint the populist billionaire Andrej Babis as prime minister, despite him winning the parliamentary elections. Pavel demands that Babis publicly explain how he will manage the conflicts of interest related to his businesses before being appointed. Babis's ANO party won the elections and formed a coalition with other far-right parties. Babis claimed that he would comply with the law regarding conflicts of interest, but did not provide details. Pavel, a pro-European politician, warns that appointing Babis without clarifications could violate the constitution and affect European funds. Babis, a former prime minister, is known for his extensive businesses, mostly in the Agrofert group, and has had legal issues related to conflicts of interest in the past.
