The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, stated that billionaire Andrej Babis, the winner of the parliamentary elections, must clarify how he will avoid conflicts of interest related to his businesses before being appointed prime minister. Babis's ANP party won the elections and will form a government with two right-wing parties. Although Babis promised to comply with the law regarding the business interests of government members, he did not provide details on how he will achieve this.
The presidential office warned that his appointment without a clear declaration could be unconstitutional and could affect funding from the European Union. Babis, who owns a group of companies, is facing pressure from anti-corruption monitoring organizations, which suggest that he should sell his businesses or not participate in the government. During his previous term, Babis had legal issues related to conflicts of interest.
