A national survey conducted by the JTN agency reveals that Bulgarians are deeply influenced by negative propaganda against joining the eurozone, with 25% of citizens fearing that salaries and pensions will be halved after the replacement of the lev with the euro in 2026.

The society is divided, with 40% supporting the introduction of the euro and 40% opposing it. Although many recognize the benefits, such as easier travel and transparent prices, nearly two-thirds consider the leva an important part of national identity. Propaganda has generated fears about rising prices, with 82% of respondents believing that merchants will take advantage of the change. However, Bulgarians approach the transition with realistic expectations, preparing to adapt to the new prices and plan their budgets more carefully. The majority believe that difficulties will be temporary, as long as communication from institutions is transparent.
