Repair work on essential electrical lines has begun near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, thanks to a temporary ceasefire mediated by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The IAEA's Director General, Rafael Grossi, thanked both Ukraine and Russia for accepting this ceasefire, describing it as a "window of silence" that will allow the restoration of electricity transport between distribution points.
The repairs are being monitored by the IAEA team and are estimated to take several days, serving to prevent a nuclear accident in the context of the military conflict. Power plants have suffered damage due to military activities, and the Zaporizhzhia plant, the largest in Europe, has been occupied by Russian troops since 2022.
