The acting U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Julie Davis, will leave her position after less than a year, according to an announcement from the State Department. This decision comes during a period of stagnation in U.S. mediation efforts for a ceasefire in the conflict with Russia.
Anonymous sources cited by the Financial Times suggest that Davis was frustrated by the lack of support from President Donald Trump for Ukraine. Although the State Department denied the existence of any disagreements, spokesperson Tommy Pigott emphasized that the ambassador will continue to promote the president's policies until her official departure in June 2026.
Davis, who is not a Senate-confirmed ambassador, was appointed to the position last May, following the resignation of her predecessor, Bridget Brink. She also holds the position of U.S. ambassador to Cyprus since 2023.
