The U.S. Department of Defense has requested the preparation of nearly 1,500 soldiers for a possible deployment in Minnesota, amid protests that took place in Minneapolis against the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The Washington Post reported that the military is preparing to intervene in the event that violence escalates. President Donald Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807, which allows for the deployment of the military during riots, if authorities in Minnesota fail to stop the protests targeting ICE agents. Trump emphasized on his social media that he will take action if politicians in Minnesota do not uphold the law.
