The U.S. Army is preparing for a possible mission in Cuba, without a deployment order

The US Army is assessing the availability of troops, medical personnel and other resources for a potential operation related to Cuba, according to an internal document reviewed by CBS News. Six units could be ready within 90 to 120 days, but so far there has been no deployment order.

The US Army Reserve was asked to determine whether it could provide Southern Command with reinforcements for police forces, medical personnel and support units. The formations being assessed include a logistics support battalion responsible for transportation, maintenance, fuel and supplies, as well as an engineer battalion. The document also mentions establishing a medical brigade to coordinate specialized units.

The text, dated last week, does not explicitly mention Cuba and does not specify the number of personnel required. However, several US officials told CBS that the request is part of military planning concerning the island.

The move comes amid pressure from the Donald Trump administration on the Cuban government. The US president recently said he was seeking a “fundamental change” in Cuba, while Havana accused Washington of preparing military aggression. At the same time, the two governments have been in contact to negotiate a solution.
