Information on more than 41,000 employees of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was made public following a cyberattack, DDoSecrets, an organization specializing in publishing data obtained through leaks, announced.
According to the organization, the database was provided by the “Department of Peace” hacker group, which allegedly developed the “Icepick” tool. It enables searches for the names, positions, offices, and duties of DHS employees, including those of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.
Activists cited by DDoSecrets described the leak as unprecedented in scale and impact. The documents reportedly identify people involved in undercover operations, counterintelligence activities, as well as detention and deportation programs.
The incident comes at a sensitive time for the U.S. administration, as DHS and ICE enforce the strict immigration policies promoted by President Donald Trump during his second term. Federal operations have led to the arrest and deportation of thousands of undocumented migrants and have been criticized by human rights organizations.
The publication of the database raises new questions about the cybersecurity of federal institutions and the protection of information about employees involved in sensitive government programs.
