The Danish Foreign Minister, Lars Loekke Rasmussen, stated on Monday that there are "red lines that cannot be crossed," referring to American President Donald Trump's aspirations to purchase Greenland.
European countries are considering the use of a "commercial bazooka" after Trump threatened to impose new tariffs on European allies.
The tool, adopted in 2023 with countries like China in mind, can be applied if a country attempts to exert pressure on the European Union or one of its member states "to make a certain choice by applying or threatening to apply measures that affect trade or investments." It could block part of America's access to EU markets or impose export controls, among other potential countermeasures.
