Ted Turner, the founder of CNN and one of the most influential figures in the history of American television, has died at the age of 87. The cause of death was Lewy body dementia, according to available public information.
Turner is credited with transforming the way news is distributed globally by launching the first 24-hour news channel that broadcasted non-stop. Outside of his media activities, he donated one billion dollars to establish the United Nations Foundation, one of the largest individual philanthropic gestures in recent history.
His career also included notable achievements in sports, including winning the America's Cup in sailing. He was married three times and had five children. Financially, the merger of Time Warner with AOL resulted in significant losses for Turner, who held substantial shares in the company. Despite these difficulties, he continued to support causes such as nuclear arms control and combating climate change until the last years of his life.
