"Late Show", one of the most influential programs in the history of American television, will air its final edition on Thursday night, concluding a 33-year run on CBS.
The program, initially hosted by David Letterman and later by Stephen Colbert, became a platform for political satire, especially against Donald Trump. In the final edition, Colbert invited Letterman, and the two symbolically protested CBS's decision by throwing objects at the network's logo.
CBS justified the show's closure by citing financial issues, but many analysts suspect that the reasons are related to the relationships with the Trump administration, considering a recent financial agreement between Paramount and Trump.
Letterman revolutionized late-night television in the '80s, and Colbert transformed the show into an anti-Trump platform. CBS will replace "Late Show" with "Comics Unleashed", and Colbert's rivals, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, announced that they will not air new episodes on the night of the show's finale.
