Christiane Amanpour, one of CNN’s best-known figures, announced Monday that she will leave the company in June 2027, after 43 years with the network. The decision comes at an important moment for the U.S. broadcaster, which is coming under the control of its new owner, Skydance.
The journalist will end her daily programs on CNN and PBS at the end of this year. She will continue hosting a weekly program on CNN until May 2027 and will contribute in June to ensuring as smooth a transition as possible.
Christiane Amanpour said that her departure from CNN was decided after months of reflection and that she will focus on new projects, including the independent podcast “Ex-Files,” produced together with her former husband, Jamie Rubin.
Amanpour, 68, joined CNN in 1986 as a journalist covering Eastern Europe and reported from conflict zones such as Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Between 1992 and 2010, she was the network’s chief international correspondent. She has previously criticized the way Skydance is managing CBS News and said she is concerned about the company’s editorial direction. CNN CEO Mark Thompson said he regrets the journalist’s departure but believes the timing is right for her.
