Taiwan has received assurances regarding the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from a major LNG producer, according to statements by the Minister of Economy, Kung Ming-hsin.
This statement comes in the context of concerns related to the impact of the war with Iran on energy imports from the Middle East. Before the conflict, Taiwan imported about one-third of its LNG from Qatar, but authorities have announced that they have found alternative sources from Australia and the United States for the coming months. Kung Ming-hsin mentioned that, in the next two weeks, an official from a "major energy-producing country" contacted him to offer support, assuring him that Taiwan can request additional deliveries if necessary. Additionally, CPC, the state-owned company, confirmed the maintenance of stock levels at stable levels and signed a new contract with the United States for the annual delivery of 1.2 million tons of LNG.
Taiwan is not considering imports of oil or LNG from Russia, thus emphasizing the strategy of diversifying energy sources.
