In the context of international tensions and threats of conflict, more and more Swiss people want to get closer to NATO, and the Swiss authorities have decided to invest over a billion francs to restore the bunkers built during the Cold War. These shelters, which have been transformed into storage facilities and mushroom cultivation centers, will be brought back to the necessary standards to ensure a place for every person in the country in case of an attack.
The works specifically target large structures, such as Urania in Zurich, which can accommodate up to 11,000 people. Additionally, the Swiss authorities are studying solutions to protect employees during working hours, considering the risks of an attack.
The increased perception of danger has also stimulated the private sector, which offers simple bunkers as well as sophisticated structures, with prices ranging from 20,000 to over a million euros. This trend reflects a reassessment of civil defense priorities in the face of global threats, including nuclear and conventional ones.
