On Monday, a strong earthquake shook Colombia, having a magnitude of 6.6 according to the Colombian Geological Service and 7.4 according to the United States Geological Service.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 100 km, and the epicenter was located near the locality of San José del Palmar, in the Chocó department, situated in the west of the country. The earthquake was felt not only in the Colombian cities of Bogotá and Cali but also in the capitals Quito (Ecuador) and Panama City (Panama).
Following the earthquake, buildings in Bogotá were evacuated, and authorities were alerted to assess any potential damage. Journalists from AFP present at the scene reported on the panic generated by the earthquake.
