Google closed 449 YouTube channels from South Korea in the second quarter of this year, after identifying content with political interference, according to a report by the Threat Analysis Group, cited by Reuters. Most of the closures occurred in May, when 367 channels were removed from the platform, shortly before the local elections on June 3. The channels promoted or criticized the government in Seoul, South Korean parties, and politicians. During the same period, Google closed thousands of channels associated with influence operations from China and Russia, but the number of South Korean channels removed surged just before the election.
