EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has confirmed that Slovakia has prevented the adoption of the 18th sanctions package against Russia amid intensifying Russian attacks in Ukraine. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico rejected the Commission's proposal as insufficient, in particular the ban on Russian gas imports from 2028. Although the Commission offered solutions to Slovakia's challenges, Fico asked for exemptions for continued gas supplies until 2034.
