Marko Djuric, the Serbian Foreign Minister, announced that Belgrade is willing to host peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing that Serbia has the necessary experience and friendly relations with all parties involved. Djuric stated that the war in Ukraine must end immediately and reiterated Serbia's support for the territorial integrity of all states, including Ukraine.
This offer comes after the cancellation of a proposed summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Hungary. Although Serbia voted for UN resolutions condemning Russia's invasion, it refused to impose sanctions against Moscow. Djuric emphasized that Serbia values its place in Europe, having close relations with the USA, but also with China, which has raised some concerns among American officials. China has invested heavily in Serbia, and Djuric mentioned that Beijing supports Serbia's position on Kosovo.
