Russia is calling on the U.S. administration to take developments on the front into account in any potential agreement to end the war in Ukraine, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Saturday, according to TASS and Reuters. The official claims that the situation is changing to Kyiv’s disadvantage.
The statement comes as U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, plan to visit Moscow and Kyiv. The two are expected to meet Vladimir Putin in Moscow and later hold talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
Donald Trump said his envoys would present a proposal to end the war and that Washington was seeking to resume negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. According to sources cited by The New York Times, the U.S. wants a temporary halt to attacks during the visit.
It is unclear whether Witkoff and Kushner will present a new peace plan or seek to unblock issues left over from earlier negotiations, including control over Donbas, Ukrainian territory partially occupied by Russia. The two envoys have previously visited Moscow but have not yet traveled to Kyiv.
