The search took place on July 15 following an investigation into government subsidies obtained by Shurma's brother for solar power plants in Russian-occupied areas. It sparked displeasure from President Zelenski, who opposes international investigations, influencing the decision to place the anti-corruption agency NABU under executive control. This has sparked protests in Ukraine and warnings from European leaders. Recently, Zelenski has fast-tracked a law to restore the independence of anti-corruption agencies.
