Scott Pelley, the veteran host of '60 Minutes', was fired by CBS News on Tuesday night, as part of a reorganization led by Bari Weiss, the new head of the channel. This decision comes after Weiss fired several employees, including the executive producer, and appointed a new editor, Nick Bilton, who has no experience in television journalism.
Pelley accused the management of undermining independent journalism and claimed he was forced to include unverified information in the show. In the termination letter, Bilton described Pelley as 'uncooperative' and mentioned that he tried to communicate with him, but without success. CBS News has gone through turmoil since the acquisition by the parent company by David Ellison, an ally of Donald Trump, and Weiss stated that the network needs to adapt to the digital age. Pelley, with a 37-year career at CBS, left with 'a heart full of gratitude', as leadership changes continue to generate controversy among employees.
