Nicolas Sarkozy, former president of France, will be tried on appeal between March 16 and June 3, 2026, after being sentenced to five years in prison for criminal association in the case of financing his 2007 presidential campaign with money from Libya. Sarkozy was incarcerated for three weeks and released under judicial supervision.

The Paris Criminal Court found him guilty of facilitating his associates' access to illegal funding from Muammar Gaddafi. Alongside him, nine other individuals, including former ministers, will be retried. The court acquitted three individuals, but the National Financial Prosecutor's Office appealed. Sarkozy stated that he will prepare the appeal to prove his innocence, asserting that "the truth will triumph." He has also been convicted in other cases, including for phone tapping, and is awaiting a decision on November 26 regarding another conviction.
