Michael O’Leary, the CEO of Ryanair, warned that Europe's supply of kerosene could be affected from June if the conflict in the Middle East persists.
The Irish airline is monitoring the supply situation daily and estimates a 10% – 20% risk regarding fuel availability in the summer months. O’Leary emphasized that the most profitable flights take place between June and September, and Ryanair cannot afford to reduce routes. The UK is considered the most exposed to a potential fuel shortage, given its massive oil imports from Kuwait. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates that 25% – 30% of Europe's kerosene demand comes from the Gulf, making the continent vulnerable to the impact of the war. Although airline stocks have recently risen, O’Leary mentioned that Ryanair has not yet observed a significant increase in ticket prices due to the conflict, still expecting an annual increase of 3% – 4% in the April-June period.
