Five residents of Volgograd filed a complaint with the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexandr Bastrykin, regarding the fuel shortage in the city.
They reported that the local administration benefits from fuel through cards, while citizens face restrictions.
The police considered this action an 'unauthorized public demonstration', detaining the participants.
One of the participants in the action received five days of arrest, and another participant was fined 10,000 rubles.
A similar situation occurred in Perm, where Lev Samolovskikh was sanctioned for organizing a rally related to the fuel shortage. The fuel crisis in Russia has been exacerbated by attacks from the Armed Forces of Ukraine on refineries, and refining capacity has significantly decreased.
Although the situation temporarily improved, a new wave of crisis emerged in August, with restrictions reintroduced in at least 10 regions. Authorities have started a priority supply campaign for Moscow, and forecasts suggest a new phase of the crisis, with refineries in Belarus and Russia undergoing scheduled repairs.
