In a hearing before the health subcommittee, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced the rehiring of 942 laid-off employees from the CDC and NIH, emphasizing that the agencies could not do their jobs without them. Although he plans staff cuts at the FDA, CDC and NIH, Kennedy acknowledged the need for some of those laid off. The proposed budget cuts, criticized by Democrats, aim to save $1.8 billion a year.
