Ford has re-hired over 300 specialists after the implemented AI systems did not have the desired impact.

Ford has decided to rehire over 300 specialists with experience in quality control, after the artificial intelligence (AI) systems implemented in the production processes failed to reach the expertise level of experienced engineers.

According to statements by Charles Poon, vice president for hardware component engineering, AI is a valuable tool, but its efficiency depends on the quality of the data used for training. Ford has introduced AI technologies in factories to identify defects, aiming to reduce costs and increase productivity, but the results have not met expectations.

Poon emphasized that the experience of engineers has not been sufficiently leveraged, with many of them leaving the company before they could integrate their know-how into the automated systems. The rehired engineers will contribute both to training the AI systems and to mentoring younger staff.
