Pope Leo XVI was enthusiastically greeted by hundreds of thousands of young people from more than 146 countries at the Youth Jubilee, an event dedicated to revitalizing the Catholic faith. In his speech, the pope encouraged young people to persevere in their faith and serve the poor. Participants, who waited for hours in the scorching sun, were cooled with water cannons. The event, part of the Catholic Holy Year, included music, prayers and a festive atmosphere and was likened to a "Catholic Woodstock".
