The Polish Military Gendarmerie announced the loss of an Alpha Wing drone, which fell into the Baltic Sea on Saturday, approximately six kilometres from the shore, during test flights conducted at the training ground in Ustka. The incident was caused by an engine malfunction.
The aircraft was operated as part of tests carried out by a civilian company, and the authorities have not yet specified whether the drone was recovered. Due to the wind and sea currents, it or fragments of it could be carried towards the coast.
The Gendarmerie warned the public not to touch or move the drone if it is found. Anyone who spots the aircraft should move away, warn others and call the emergency number 112.
The incident adds to a recent series of similar events. On 21 October, an unarmed drone used by the Norwegian army during exercises at the training ground in Nowa Dęba disappeared from radar and was later found in the village of Wydrza, in the Podkarpackie region. The area was secured, and the authorities determined that the incident caused no casualties or material damage.
