A plane crashed on the A2 motorway northeast of the German city of Magdeburg, and the aircraft caught fire after the impact, police announced. The incident occurred on one of Germany’s most important east-west transport routes. Authorities have not yet provided information about the exact time of the crash, the type of aircraft or any possible casualties.
Emergency crews from several nearby cities, ambulances, psychosocial emergency support services and the district fire chief were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters worked to extinguish the aircraft wreckage, which appeared in images to be painted red and white.
The plane’s remains were found approximately one kilometre from the Krähenberge service area. Police are continuing their checks to establish the causes and circumstances of the crash.
The A2 motorway connects the Berlin metropolitan area with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is a key road corridor between eastern and western Germany. The report was transmitted by the DPA news agency.
