Evacuations took place following a warning received from New Delhi, which informed Islamabad about possible cross-border flooding, marking the first public diplomatic contact between the two countries in months. Pakistani authorities issued a prior warning to their counterparts in Punjab about a rise in the Sutlej River and the risk of flooding, and evacuations from various districts of the eastern Punjab province are underway.
